Vote Alexander Smothers for U.S. House of Representatives AZ-08

I was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Phoenix when I was 11 years old. I came up through Arizona’s public school system, right here in Congressional District 8 — shaped by the same challenges many families in our communities still face today.

Like so many young people, I took whatever work I could find — sometimes for as little as $7.50 an hour. I’ve worked jobs most politicians wouldn’t last a day in, including scrubbing dishes in the back of a restaurant just to make ends meet. I know what it’s like to work hard, earn little, and still wonder if the system is working for you — because I’ve lived it.

After high school, college is where I got involved in organizing and volunteering for causes I believed in. That’s where I found my voice — and my passion for change. I learned that when everyday people come together, we can challenge broken systems, fight for fairness, and demand a government that actually works for us.

I’ve also made mistakes in my life. I’ve had run-ins with the law, including a DUI in 2024. I don’t hide from that. In fact, I’ve learned from it — deeply. I’ve taken full responsibility, done the work to grow, paid the fines, and am committed to showing what redemption and public service can look like in action.

Now I’m stepping up to run for Congress, not because it’s easy — but because I believe working families, renters, students, veterans, and young people deserve a seat at the table. I’m not backed by big money or political insiders — I’m powered by people like you.
